Full Restore Warning

A full restore can overwrite newer files, emails, databases, and settings. If unsure, create a fresh backup before restoring older data.

Restoring a Database Only

When to Restore a Database

  • Broken WordPress update
  • Accidental page or post deletion
  • Database corruption
  • Plugin setting problems
  • Website content rollback

Restore Process

Open Backuply, select the backup date, choose the database component only, and begin the restore.

WordPress Sites

Restoring the database may revert posts, pages, users, WooCommerce orders, plugin settings, and theme settings.

Restoring the Home Directory

When to Restore Files

  • Website hacked
  • Files accidentally deleted
  • Plugin or theme files damaged
  • Failed website update
  • Missing images or uploads

Restore Process

Select only the Home Directory component to restore website files without affecting databases where possible.

Important for WordPress

Restoring files without restoring the database may fix missing files, but it will not restore deleted posts or pages.

Restoring Email Accounts

Restore Mailboxes

Recover deleted, missing, or damaged email messages from a backup.

Restore Individual Accounts

Where supported, restore only the affected mailbox rather than all email accounts.

Email Restore Warning

Restoring emails may overwrite or replace newer mailbox data depending on the restore method used.

Restoring Individual Files or Folders

Browse Backup Contents

Where supported, browse the contents of a backup before restoring.

Select Only What You Need

Restore only the file or folder required instead of restoring the entire website.

Common Examples

  • wp-config.php
  • .htaccess
  • Single image folders
  • Theme folders
  • Plugin folders
  • Upload folders

Common Backup & Restore Scenarios

Website Hacked

Restore website files from a clean backup created before the compromise.

Broken WordPress Update

Restore files, database, or both depending on what changed during the update.

Deleted Emails

Restore affected mailboxes from a recent backup where available.

Accidental File Deletion

Recover only the missing files or folders without rolling back the entire account.

Failed Website Migration

Restore the previous working version if a migration does not complete correctly.

Database Error

Restore a known working database backup if the website database becomes corrupted.

Common Backup Mistakes

Not Testing Backups

A backup is only useful if it can be restored successfully.

No Local Copy

Keep a copy on your computer or remote storage, not only inside the hosting account.

Forgetting Email

Many users backup website files but forget mailboxes and email data.

Restoring Too Much

Do not perform a full restore if only a single file, database, or mailbox needs recovery.

Overwriting New Data

Restoring an older backup may overwrite newer website changes, emails, orders, or database records.

Keeping Backups on Server Only

If the server account has a problem, locally downloaded backups provide an extra safety net.

Quick Tips

Backup Before Updates

Create a backup before updating WordPress, plugins, themes, or custom code.

Backup Before Migration

Create a full backup before moving hosting providers or changing servers.

Download Important Backups

Keep important backups on your own computer or secure cloud storage.

Restore Only What You Need

Use partial restores where possible to avoid overwriting unrelated data.

Check Website After Restore

Test pages, forms, images, emails, and admin login after restoring data.

Keep Multiple Backup Dates

Multiple restore points are useful if the most recent backup already contains the issue.
